A national holiday that celebrates the Independence of Mexico.
On September 15, both residents and visitors congregate around the Municipal Palace to participate in the traditional cry for independence made by the municipal president of Cozumel from the balcony of the town hall at 11:00 pm.
After the declaration, fireworks are lit and other festivities that include traditional Mexican dishes, dances, and folk music.
